How the Joy of Dance! Studio Began

As a Qualitative Researcher studying the psychological effect of media on women's self-esteem, I offer positive tools to assist this population with lessening harmful results. My research has found that girls as young as age 5 suffer with self-esteem and body image which has been coined, normative discontent. To help alleviate this problem, in fall 2015, I created the Joy of Dance! Studio to assist little girls and women with mitigating harmful effects of media by raising awareness and elevating self-esteem through arts and education specifically, through the joy of dance! Identifying and celebrating cultural heritage & beauty while increasing self-esteem.

About Me

I began studying dance at age 4 and have been teaching & choreographing various styles since the age of 15. My love of dance & education are inspired by Debbie Allen; in 2009, I was chosen by Mrs. Allen to be a faculty member at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy where I taught for 5 years. An advocate for education, I was awarded a Doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology and choreograph & dance for numerous artists, projects and events including the Agape International Spiritual Center under the direction of Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith.

Having written the 9th & 10th grade Dance Curriculums for Creative Arts High School in Camden, New Jersey, I have created professional dance programs for John Muir High School and Eliot Middle School in Pasadena, CA as well as Altadena Elementary School in Altadena, CA. As a professional Choreographer and Dancer for popular music artists, I volunteer assisting high school students with the college going process and have countless students on college campuses throughout the U.S., especially Historically Black Colleges / Universities (HBCU's) of which I am a graduate. I focus talents on inner city youth thereby blending my passion to inspire others to set, accomplish and maintain goals in order to achieve life balance while creating and becoming their best.
